Our Story
Our story could start during COVID, but in all honesty...it started way before then. The Reading Tree became The Reading Tree during COVID, but it started one night when a mom mentioned that Grade 1's in South Africa are doing what 4 year olds do in England when it comes to reading. She pulled out a box and showed all the resources that were used and given to parents of children in Early Years and Key Stage 1.
To my surprise, the information in those booklets was more advanced than what our Grade 1's were doing. This is where the rabbit hole began. I went on a bit of a deep dive into reading in England, but of course I had only scraped the tip of the iceberg.
A year later, I found myself in the south of China, at an international kindergarten. Some how, my experience in childcare had set me apart and I quickly started making progress at the school. After a few short days I was thrown in the deep end and had to teach the 4-5 year olds reading. Naturally, this re-inspired the deep dive that I had begun the year before. This time the rabbit hole was deeper and crazier than before.
Inundated with loads of terminology and strategies I felt dizzy! But THIS is truly where the inspiration had come from.
Through the years, I have tried and tested many programs and selected the strategies that work to teach reading skills. During COVID I had put it all to practice and developed a solid reading program.
Our program is suitable for children who have no letter knowledge, as young as 3 years old and those who are at school and struggle to read. Our resources are interactive and simple enough to teach the skills that are needed when a child learns the foundations of reading.
The resources do not only hold the attention of children of any age, but it also promotes independence by allowing a child to build confidence in their reading abilities.
We have simple, but impactful teachers guides that allow teachers to teach the targeted skill! These are suitable for parents, teachers and of course our tutors. We cover pre-reading skills, early reading skills, intermediate reading skills and advanced reading and writing skills.
Our resources are suitable for children aged 3 years old to Grade 3. These resources are available to schools, teachers and parents alike.
