Stage 2

Advanced Phonics Stage

This stage is based on, but not limited to, the Foundation Phonics Stage. Once children are able to read and comprehend basic sentences and stories they move on to more advanced sounds.

This stage requires children to understand the concept of vowels, digraphs & trigraphs and diphthongs. These are letter combinations such as 'igh' which makes the long vowel sound /ī/.

Advanced Sounds

This section explores how multiple letters form single sounds. This part of the program requires a solid ability to decode and apply skills learned previously.

Reading requirements are more intense and comprehension passages are complex.

This stages introduces children to understanding the structure of language and the rules of writing.
